Prenatal Yoga
Q. I am only 7 weeks pregnant. Is it too early to start taking prenatal yoga?
A. It’s really up to you. I have had students start taking my class as early as 6 weeks, and others like to wait until their first trimester is complete. Some people announce their pregnancy right away; others wait until they are through their first trimester. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Just make sure that your physician/midwife is aware you are taking prenatal yoga. Keep in mind that the earlier you start, the more time you have to prepare your body and mind for the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth.
Q. I am 8 months pregnant. Am I too far along to start?
A. No, it’s really never too late to start, as long as your doctor/midwife approves. This class can be a supplement to helping you prepare for your upcoming birth.
Q. I have never done yoga before, is it okay for me to take this class?
A. As long as your physician/midwife is aware that you are taking prenatal yoga, you do not need any prior yoga experience to take my class. All postures are safe for pregnancy. My class is specifically designed to help ease discomforts of pregnancy and prepare your body and mind for childbirth and parenting.
Stroller Jam
Q. How soon after having my baby can I begin attending this class?A. You need to be at least 6-weeks postpartum to begin taking StrollerJam™, or have a consent form signed from your doctor. This is an aerobic exercise class which does place physical demand on your body. Your lochia (blood flow after childbirth) needs to be gone. Listen to your body, and when you feel ready to get out and exercise with other moms, give the class a try. You can take it at your own pace.
Q. What kind of stroller do I need?
A. Any stroller will do, but because the class is mostly indoors, a jog stroller is NOT recommended.
Q. I have twins, can I still take the class?
A. Most certainly. You will get double the workout!
Q. I have a toddler and an infant. May we all take the class?
A. As long as the toddler is content remaining in the stroller for the aerobic portion of the class, this would be perfectly fine.
Q. What will I do if my baby cries throughout the class?
A. Rarely, do I have a baby cry throughout class. If your baby cries, attend to their primary needs – feed, change diaper… Often times, the young babies fall asleep once the music and motion begins. I would suggest bringing a Baby Bjorn or other baby carrier with you to class, just in case your baby has a bad stroller day.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you will not overheat in. Wear a supportive bra. You can also double up and wear a sports bra over your nursing bra if you are still nursing. Wear a running, cross-training or aerobic shoe and make sure they are fairly new with lots of support.
